White Lily

What Fassbinder film is it?
The one-armed man walks into a flower shop
And says: What flower expresses
Days go by
And they just keep going by endlessly
Pulling you Into the future
Days go by
Endlessly
Endlessly pulling you
Into the future?
And the florist says: White Lily. -- Laurie Anderson

I am beginning this first post of my updated blog with this piece from Laurie Anderson's Home of the Brave because it sums up how I've been feeling about blogging lately. Days went by, and they kept on going by, pulling me endlessly into not having written.

I think the problem was that I was trying to be entertaining without knowing if I was achieving my goal. That's the difference between stand-up comedy and comedy writing. On stage, when your jokes are landing, you kill. If not, you die. And then there's the comedy half-life where the mildly amused audience will reward you with an occasional chuckle.  I felt like I was blogging from that twilight place.

So, I've decided to step into the light by taking the blog in a different direction. Instead of writing stories about Sissy Van Dyke and the made-up people in her fictional life, I'm going to write as Sissy Van Dyke, and the people and stories in my real life.

The new Adventures of Sissy Van Dyke blog will have interviews, reviews, and (hopefully) humorous observations. I am excited about the new blog and I'm looking forward to sharing it with you all. Thanks for reading!
